New Hampshire Community Seafood (NH Community Seafood) is a coop based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that sells fresh seafood directly to consumers and restaurants through its Community Supported Fishery (CSF).
After its first year, New Hampshire Community Seafood came to Good Egg Marketing through a grant from the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund to get help in scaling up.
Good Egg created two online surveys (one for members, one for nonmembers) so we could learn about their preferences and motivations. The surveys revealed that supporting the local economy, protecting the ocean and the fishing community, and getting access to fresh, local seafood were important to both current and potential members. We used this knowledge to advise on new distribution sites, create new text for the website, and create a sales and marketing strategy.
“Good Egg Marketing helped us double our membership,” says NH Community Seafood cofounder and former executive director Josh Wiersma. “The survey data, website content, and marketing plan also helped us attract new restaurant members and get more member shareholders.” He adds, “Good Egg Marketing really gets what we do. Having a consultant who understands the coop model is a huge asset.”
